Warm and dry spring hints at things to come this season

Warm and dry spring hints at things to come this season
As we head into summer and look back on the last season, its clear that most places have been warmer and drier than average. When taking into account both daytime and overnight temperatures, much of eastern Australia has seen their 2nd warmest spring, including capital cities like Sydney and Melbourne to name just a couple. Sydney was on average two degrees warmer than what we would normally expect through Spring. Further north, Tamworth saw its hottest spring days in 57 years of records. Meanwhile, rain gauges across the country have been falling short of the mark; Adelaide in particular only collected around half of the Spring-time average and looks to have had the 9th driest Spring in 175 years of records. Other capitals fell short too; Sydney receiving two thirds of average rainfall. Southern cities seemed to fare a little better, benefiting from cold-fronts bringing bouts of rain. Perth only missed out on 10% of the average rainfall, while Melbourne caught around 80% of its average. This trend of drier and warmer than average conditions is likely to persist throughout summer as the possibility of El Nino continues to knock on the door.
