Warm air sweeps into the east

Martin Palmer
The warm air that swept into the southeast this weekend from the interior, is completing its tour of Australia, last stop Queensland. After the warm air brought some memorable beach weather to Sydney on Sunday, it was the turn of northern New South Wales and southern Queensland on Monday. The Northern Rivers and the Mid North Coast hit maximums today between eight and ten degrees above average. Kempsey Airport hit 31 degrees, nine above average and their warmest August day in eight years. Similarly, Dorrigo rose to 26 degrees, ten above average and their best in 12 years. In Queensland, the warmth spread across the southeast. Brisbane topped 28 degrees, five above average and their best since April. In the Maranoa, Injune scorched to 32 degrees, 10 above average and their warmest August day in 39 years. A cooler change will continue to spread through southeastern Queensland on Tuesday, bringing maximums back to something resembling normality. All eyes are now focused firmly on this coming weekend however, as another bout of warm air blows into the southeast.
