Victorians had a taste of winter on Sunday, struggling in mighty winds and temperatures near 10 degrees, the coldest day since last winter for many. In Melbourne the temperature was about 12 degrees for most of the day and as cold as 10 during the heaviest showers. Melbourne's maximum was just 13.6, six below the April average and the coldest April day in 14 years. Nearby Scoresby, only reached 12 degrees, eight below average. Mt Dandenong didn't get any warmer than seven degrees. It was winter-like throughout the state and cold enough for snow to fall on the Alps and a little further down the slopes. Snow was reported at Donna Buang, about 1200 metres above sea level. In the north, Shepparton barely reached 13 degrees, nine below average. Frequent showers in the last few days have brought as much as 20 to 40mm to the northeast of the state. The wind caused damage to trees, roofs and powerlines, peaking at speeds of 128km/h at Wilsons Promontory and above 90km/h in parts of Melbourne and Geelong. Monday may be just as cold for parts of Victoria as a pool of cold air lingers over the state bringing further cloud and showers. Thankfully it will not be as windy.
