Unseasonally heavy rain for Northern Country

Unseasonally heavy rain for Northern Country
Overnight downpours have soaked parts of Northern Country with some of the heaviest September rainfall on record in some locations. In the Northern Country, 68mm fell at Rochester, the heaviest September rainfall in 110 years of records, whilst Echuca, 41mm, Yarrawonga, 34mm, and Bendigo, 38mm, each had the heaviest September rain since 1962, 1997 and 2011 respectively. Jumping across the border, Albury picked up 41mm, the heaviest September rainfall for 9 years and second heaviest since records begun in 1983. A moist, slow moving, embedded low and trough triggered this unusually heavy September rainfall. Whilst there were some showers during the day the heaviest of the rain fell late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. While the same trough caused thunderstorms further north in NSW and QLD, there was only rain for central parts of Victoria. Extensive cloud cover prevented enough lifting to trigger any thunder. Cloud is now clearing over the Northern Country as a ridge of high pressure builds in the wake of this trough. For the next few days mostly sunny skies will prevail with the chance of some fog early on Saturday morning.
