Unseasonably hot spell developing in Brisbane

Unseasonably hot spell developing in Brisbane

Get ready to turn on those air-cons because heat is returning to southeast Queensland this week. Although this burst of heat won't be as intense as the scorching temperatures that the sunny state's southeast endured earlier this month, this event has the potential to be the hottest spell this late in the season in decades. Three consecutive 32-degree days are possible in the city, something that hasn’t occurred in Brisbane this late in the season since April 1973.

We bet you'll be cranking up the air-con to deal with the heat, especially with the humidity levels on the rise. Starting on Tuesday 28th, a low-intensity heatwave will affect the region, raising temperatures into the low-to-mid 30s until about Thursday 30th. The hottest days are expected to be Tuesday and Wednesday, with the western suburbs of Brisbane feeling the heat even more.

To add to the discomfort, humidity levels will increase significantly, making it feel up to 3-4 degrees hotter than actual. While the temperatures may not hit the stratosphere, the humidity will probably make you feel like you're in a steamy sauna, and you'll be waving at your air-con again just to get a little relief from the suffocating heat.

Extra relief may be on the way in the afternoons, with seabreezes expected to develop. And if that's not enough, there's also a chance of showers and storms for Greater Brisbane and parts of southeast Queensland on Wednesday and Thursday.

To sum up, southeast Queensland may not be experiencing a heatwave of epic proportions, but it's still going to be pretty hot and humid. Keep cool, stay hydrated, and brace yourself for a few uncomfortable days.
