The heavy rain contracts south and east
Chris Matthews
The trough system that brought the heavy rain across large parts of Australia during the week has formed into a low pressure system and now sits off the southeast corner of the country.
Further heavy rain occurred overnight with Mt Moornapa in the foothills on the Ranges in South Gippsland reporting 122.4mm until 9am this morning, similarly Bairnsdale airport just to the southeast reporting 77.4mm until 9am, which was its’ highest November rainfall in 33 years.
The system that has caused this heavy rain and associated strong winds will move away this afternoon, however, a strong cold front is due Sunday afternoon with further rainfall (and potential thunderstorms) expected.
