Testing weather in Brisbane
Heat and afternoon thunderstorms will be a main feature for the Second Test starting at the Gabba. Day 1 of the Test is going to produce trying conditions for players and spectators alike, with the mercury set to rise to a peak of 35 degrees around lunch. During the afternoon the seabreeze will knock a few degrees off the temperature, but the humidity will increase. In the afternoon sessions there is a risk of a shower or thunderstorm rolling through, most likely after Tea. On Day 2 the very warm and humid conditions will remain. The increased humidity on this day is likely to produce some good swing for the bowlers, but it also brings an even greater chance of an afternoon thunderstorm. After the game finishes up showers and storms are at their most likely. Anyone going to the game would be wise to take an umbrella. On Friday (Day 3), the humidity is likely to drop slightly, whilst the mercury peaks in the mid 30's. Thankfully for players and spectators, there is only a slim chance of a shower delaying play. If the game lingers into the weekend players will enjoy cooler temperatures due to a southeasterly change arriving on Friday night. The temperature should only reach 28 degrees each day. There is only a slight chance of showers each day at the Gabba. By the look of things the game should be pretty dry, with only a couple of rain delays possible, meaning that Steve Smith is unlikely to start his captaincy with a draw.
