Tablelands snow

Friday August 10, 2012 - 07:39 EST

A light dusting of snow is covering parts of the central tablelands.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecast snow down to 700 metres overnight, with showers in Orange and heavier falls reported at Oberon.

The duty forecaster Dimitri Danchuk says the cold snap is expected to ease today.

"Some of this light rainfall could be observed as snow because at the beginning of the night snow levels were at about 700 metres over the region," he said.

"Effectively meaning that Orange did have a pretty good chance to see some snow crystals."

Some people have reported a couple of centimetres of snow lying.

Mr Danchuk says there is unlikely to be any more snow.

"The short answer is no because the southwesterly airstream despite being very cold is pretty dry and our expectation for today is that low cloud will gradually clear by about midday.

"No showers or snow expected for today."
