Sydney's long spell of surf

Sydney's long spell of surf
Sydney-siders have been spoilt for choice in the surf department over the past few days. A pulse of southerly swell moved up the coast on Wednesday provided solid surf in the 4-5ft range at exposed south facing spots. Unfortunately, the quality of the surf was tainted by a gusty onshore breeze which added an element of bump and chop making it tricky to find a decent wave Conditions improved on Thursday however, with winds cooperating and swinging west/northwesterly. The entire day offered clean peaks in the 4-5ft range. Those who were lucky enough to go for a paddle on Friday morning scored clean, fun waves in the 3-4ft range under light/moderate west/northwesterly breezes. Conditions deteriorated slightly for the afternoon session as a southerly breeze picked up, but protected southern corners still had a semi-decent wave for those who needed to unwind after a tough week. The run of swell continued into Saturday with clean 3-4ft surf under a light offshore breeze. There were a variety of options for all skill levels dotted up and down the coast with smaller surf protected corners. This morning saw the wave period increase slightly with the odd bigger set catching surfers off guard as they rolled through the line up. A southerly breeze has since strengthened so the conditions have deteriorated this afternoon. If your paddling arms are still feeling fresh, there is more surf on the horizon with Monday looking to hold in the 4-5ft range, easing to 3-4ft throughout Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds are looking to prevail predominantly from the southwest as a low lingers to the south, so southern corners of the beaches will be offering the cleanest set ups.
