The big yellow ball in the sky that has seldom been seen across the last fortnight will become commonplace again across the next week in Sydney. A series of east coast lows and troughs have meant days of sun have been few and far between across the city in recent times. Widespread falls of 200-400mm have fallen over the Sydney Basin during the last 14 days, saturating the ground and making it difficult to get any washing done. However, much of the next week will be filled with sunshine as a westerly wind burst dries things out completely and leads to a run of stunning autumn weather. Today will be cloudy for the most part as a maritime airmass lingers over the region, before a few sunny breaks develop by the afternoon. Winds will then tend northwesterly tomorrow ahead of a cold front, drawing in a warm airmass with a maximum around 27 degrees expected across the Sydney Basin, well above average for May. As the front sweeps through on Wednesday, both the temperature and humidity will drop noticeably, although skies will remain clear. The remainder of the week will then be stunning with maximum temperatures reaching the low 20s right into the weekend, although mornings will become quite chilly. At this stage, the weather pattern doesn't look like breaking down anytime soon, with a good chance of sunshine spilling into the following week.
