Strong winds lash central western NSW
Tuesday August 25, 2009 - 08:00 EST
It has been a busy night for the State Emergency Service (SES) which has responded to reports of damage from strong winds.
A cold front is pushing strong winds up through southern New South Wales and the ACT, with gusts expected to top 90 kilometres per hour.
However, the winds are predicted to ease throughout the day.
SES central west controller Craig Ronan says there have been about six reports of trees down in the Lithgow, Bathurst and Orange areas.
"We've also had one job this morning that involved roof tiles blown off a house at Lithgow," he said.
"We've obviously had to go to assess the damage and make some temporary repairs and make the roof safe so there's no further damage."
He says the call-outs started about 3:00pm (AEST) yesterday and he is expecting more today.
"As people wake up and see trees blown down and damage to their homes, I suggest we might get a few calls during the day," he said.
"If anyone needs assistance during the day due to the wind, can they call the SES on 132 500."
There have also been reports of trees over in the Goulburn area but the SES in the Parkes-Forbes region says it has received no calls for help.
