Stormy week for southeast QLD

Stormy week for southeast QLD
After toasting in record November heat over the weekend, southeast Queensland can look forward to a cooler, but more humid and stormy week. A low pressure trough over the state will deepen in response to a humid northeasterly flow sourced off the Coral Sea. This will produce thunderstorms across the region on every day during the next week, except today. The Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Southeast Coast and the Wide Bay and Burnett will experience the most widespread thunderstorm activity, particularly about higher ground. While thunderstorms will be prevalent on most days, between Tuesday and Friday is likely to see the most widespread action. It is also during this period when thunderstorms will be at their most intense, bringing the risk of damaging wind gusts, large hail and damaging winds. The thunderstorms will bring welcome rain to QLD's southeast where is experiencing severe rainfall deficiencies, which has not been aided by the unseasonable warmth. Across this week, most places should pick up at least 5-10mm, although there is potential for some places to accumulate as much as 50-70mm under thunderstorms, most likely along the ranges. Thunderstorms should become less frequent by the weekend as a high pressure ridge strengthens over the state's southeast.
