Storms march through the east ahead of colder change

Josh Fisher
A cold front and trough are pushing through eastern Australia bringing an array of weather conditions with storms, rain, snow and even small hail. The Northern Tablelands of New South Wales have seen the best rain today with as much as 15mm falling in some areas, bringing monthly totals over their average. Armidale has seen 11mm of rain fall between 9am and 5pm, bringing their monthly total 13mm over the July average of 44mm. This comes as good news after remaining 40mm short of the January to June average. Further south in New South Wales, small hail has been reported in the Blue Mountains as the cold airmass surges north over the state. Snow has been falling down to 1100 metres with light snow reported this morning at Nimmitabel, south of Cooma. For the resorts, only light snow showers have been falling today but Victorian resorts did see around 5 to 10cm to 9am this morning. Another surge will allow more snow showers to re-develop tomorrow. This cold airmass is set to linger over the southeast for the next few days, bringing frosty mornings to inland areas as maximum temperatures stay slightly below average.
