Southwest WA gets swamped by rain and strong winds

Southwest WA gets swamped by rain and strong winds
Heavy rain and strong winds hammered the southwest of Western Australia this morning, while strong winds continue to batter the region. Showers started occurring about the southwest of WA late last night ahead of a strong cold front. Jarrah Wood picked up 20mm early this morning, while Pemberton and Windy Harbour gained 12mm to 9am. Gosnells rounded out the top falls by picking up 11mm. While these falls weren't the heaviest this month, they did bring September totals to near average. Showers are gradually easing today as the front moves further east, with most parts generally recording less than 10mm so far. Unstable westerly winds may bring a few more light showers until Tuesday. Winds are very strong with and ahead of the front. Northwesterly winds gusted to 89km/h early this morning at Cape Leeuwin and reached 80km/h about Rottnest Island and Ocean Reef. These winds will gradually ease over inland areas today, although coastal regions will remain gusty throughout the day. Westerly winds will be strong again tomorrow, although not as strong as today. These winds are expected to gust between 40-70 km/h, strongest about the Southwest and Southern Coastal districts.
