Southeast dipping well below freezing

Inland areas of southeastern Australia have just experienced their coldest night in years and more chilly nights are on the way.
A cold airmass is surging in over the southeast and with inland skies clearing the overnight temperatures are plummeting.
Residents of Wagga Wagga shivered through their coldest night in two years as it dipped to minus three degrees. Bombala also felt its coldest in two years, falling to minus three degrees.
Other locations had their coldest night of the year, such as Cooma who saw the mercury fall seven below average to minus nine degrees. Temora also felt its coldest night this year at a chilly minus three degrees.
Northern Victoria had just seen colder nights in the previous month, but still felt the chill as frost and fog blanketed the region. Kilmore was stuck in thick fog through much of the morning with visibility as low as 100 metres.
Tasmania felt the chill as well with the minimums falling to minus four degrees at Tunnack and Ross, which is five below their averages.
A high will edge over the southeast during the next few days and will allow the frosty and foggy mornings to continue right through the beginning of next week.
