Parts of inland Western Australia have been hit by severe thunderstorms, bringing damaging winds but not a lot of rain. On Monday afternoon the Goldfields was the main target of the severe storms. One storm in Laverton produced a 93km/h wind gust, a 14-degree temperature drop from 38 to 24. This storm did bring a brief heavy downpour, four millimetres in 10 minutes, but that was about it. On Sunday big storms affected the Gascoyne, where one brought 89km/h winds to Meekatharra but only one millimetre of rain. Storms also formed nearer Esperance in the Southeast Coastal as a trough dipped south but by 3pm Monday there had been no reports of severity. The area of likely storms will move east during the next few days with the movement of the trough. They will clear from the south by mid week as a high forms. However, a heat low will maintain storms over northern parts of the state every day this week. There's not a lot of moisture in the atmosphere so most storms will bring less than 20mm. Dry easterly winds will develop across southern and western WA during the week, causing it to heat up a bit each day. By next weekend Geraldton should reach 35 degrees and Perth 30.
