SE Qld dams spring top-up best for five years

Friday December 5, 2008 - 12:38 EDT

South-east Queensland dams have received the highest spring rainfall in five years.

SEQ Water says dam levels rose by about 5 per cent over spring, adding almost six months supply to the system.

Spokesman Mike Foster says it is the first time in five years that the combined level of the Somerset, Wivenhoe and North Pine Dam did not fall.

"We had some really really solid and good falls over the September-November period - somewhere between the 220 millimetres and upwards of 320 millimetres," he said.

"To give you an idea that's in some cases two times to almost three times higher than some of the falls we've had in previous springs."
