Ring of (planned) fires around Sydney

If you're in Sydney this week, you might see or smell smoke from one of the hazard reduction burns that are occurring in and around the city.

The map below shows the hazard reduction burns that have been scheduled by the NSW RFS this week. You can find the latest information on current fires and scheduled hazard reduction burns on the RFS website.

The largest fire on Wednesday and Thursday morning was occurring in the Blue Mountains, to the west and southwest of Penrith. Smoke from this fire settled across parts of western Sydney on Wednesday night and lingered into Thursday morning.

Penrith recorded Poor to Very Poor air quality between midnight and 5am on Thursday. Some other parts of Sydney also experienced Fair air quality on Thursday morning, including Camden and Bringelly.

Smoke from the fires in the Blue Mountains is likely to drift across parts of western Sydney again on Thursday night and may linger into Friday morning.
