A strong front not only brought snow to the Alps of VIC and TAS yesterday, but it also brought what felt like a pair of crisp autumn mornings to Adelaide. Yesterday, Adelaide recorded its coldest December minimum in 60 years, dropping to 7.9 degrees - nearly eight degrees below the average. It was a cold morning throughout the city and suburbs, with both Elizabeth and Parafield recording their coldest morning in 20 years for the month of December. Teeth then continued to chatter this morning as the mercury once again plunged overnight to 9.9 degrees, making it the coldest pair of December mornings for Adelaide in 20 years. The chill extended across the Investigator Strait onto Kangaroo Island, where Kingscote and Cape Borda had their coldest pair of December mornings on record. These chilly starts were brought about by the settled conditions in the wake of the gusty front, which arrived in Adelaide on Monday. A high pressure ridge developed soon after its passage and winds turned light as a cold airmass was left lingering over the region. By the weekend, temperatures will spike across South Australia withy 40 degree days making a return. Nights in particular will be warm, with the thermometer only set to dip to 25 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday nights in the capital.
