With the recent wet weather many areas of New South Wales and Queensland are seeing rainfall totals exceed their average, with more to come in the last few days of the month.
Sydney had a concerning start to the month as totals lagged due to a lack of heavy rain events. The recent rainfall has washed those worries away, with 24mm in the last 24 hours bringing the July total to 104mm, 6mm above average.
Northwest New South Wales has received unusually high totals for July, with some areas seeing more than double the norm. Cobar has seen 54mm, the highest July total in 12 years so far.
In western Queensland, some areas have seen over four times their normal July rainfall with more to come in the next few days.
Quilpie has already picked up as staggering 72mm, which is 56mm over their average and their highest July rainfall in 26 years.
Over southeast Queensland the totals are just creeping above average. Brisbane picked up another 8mm to 9am today, bringing their total 3mm over the average with 28mm.
Many areas will see rain today, although not as heavy as the last 24 hours. Friday the rain will become heavy again over southwest Queensland and northwest New South Wales.
