Rain swamps parts of SA

Martin Palmer
Showers and storms have slammed into parts of South Australia, bringing some of the best totals in years. Whilst much of the focus in the last 24 hours has been on storm swept Victoria, parts of South Australia have also been taking a hammering. The Eyre Peninsula and Central districts took the brunt of it as storms and showers strolled through. In the 24 hours to 9am today some impressive totals were reported; - Adelaide took 7mm - not huge? - the best since November. - Kimba hit 40mm - their best in 12 years. - Cleve recorded 54mm - highest in 13 years. - Kadina saw a massive 69mm - the station's heaviest in their short 4 year history. The above, excluding Adelaide, saw their best March falls in around 18 or 19 years. Due to the sporadic nature of the showers and storms, many wishing for some rain, sadly missed out. Still, in one of South Australia's drier months, the rainfall will be a welcome boost too areas that have seen a below average summer. The showers have been continuing on Sunday and further 24 hr totals in excess of 30mm are possible. By Monday it will be the southeast that takes a soaking as a deep low sends in blustery rain with potential for 50mm plus.
