Rain on the way for New South Wales

Jessica Trevena
There's been a lot of cloud, but little rain, over southern NSW on Wednesday, but this is set to change. On Thursday night, a cold front will push across the southeast mainland. This will increase surface moisture levels and combine with upper level cloud and moisture already present to bring widespread rain. Totals of 5mm are likely east of about Walgett to Hay, grading to 10mm near the ranges. Unlike recent cold fronts, this latest is also expected to bring rain to the coast as cold winds collide with warm air over the Tasman Sea, spinning up a low pressure system. This will bring a cold, showery and windy day to Sydney on Friday. Heavy showers could bring falls in excess of 30 mm - most likely about the Hunter and Illawarra coasts. The low and unstable air will move rapidly away on Saturday, clearing skies for all but susceptible coastal regions.
