Rain and wind to return for southwest WA

Josh Fisher, Sunday July 5, 2009 - 17:23 EST

While wet and windy weather has been battering southeastern areas of the country for the past week, southwestern Western Australia has remained calm. Overnight temperatures over the southwest have been cool but maximums have been near average with mostly sunny days. Most cities have not seen any rain since the first of the month.

The quiet conditions will be changing over the next few days. A cold front will make landfall in the early hours tomorrow, bringing showers throughout the day to the southwest. Perth could see 10-15mm, but generally less than 10mm for the area.

A stronger front is expected to arrive later in the week bringing potentially strong winds and heavy falls. Winds could reach over 100 km/h in some areas with rainfall amounts possibly reaching 20mm to 30mm.
