Rain and storms flooding parts of NSW and QLD

Rain and storms flooding parts of NSW and QLD
Rain and thunderstorms are bringing some decent falls to central and northern New South Wales and southern and central Queensland, leading to some flooding. The flooding has been and will generally be minor but some areas have seen their biggest downpour in years. Coffs Harbour amassed 113mm from a slow-moving area of rain and storms, a 20-month high. Also on the north coast, Nambucca Heads and Woolgoolga also picked up about 100mm. Further south, Sydney was wettest in the north and on the coast while most southwestern suburbs missed out. Bondi was one of the wettest suburbs, receiving 61mm in just a few hours. Richmond in western Sydney gained 53mm on Sunday evening, its biggest rain in just over two years. This rainfall was due to a low pressure trough running up the coast. During the next few days a pool of cold air will help a trough form over the inland, leading to further heavy falls in northern NSW and southern and central Queensland. On Monday most places should only pick up five millimetres or less but the biggest storms have potential to bring 30mm or more. The system will be most intense on Tuesday, when it should deliver 20-40mm over parts of the Maranoa (where there is already some minor river flooding), Burnett and Central Highlands, Coalfields and Central Coast with potential for more than 60mm. The pool of cold air will continue to move northeast and off the Queensland coast on Wednesday and Thursday, allowing inland areas to dry out.
