Quieter weather to follow cold snap

Quieter weather to follow cold snap
After days of wild weather in southeastern Australia, a stable weather pattern looks like it's about to settle in across the country through the middle of May. As a general rule, low pressure systems cause inclement weather and high pressure system cause more benign weather. So when the forecast charts show that a big high is about to park itself near Australia, it's not difficult to know what's coming. The high in this case will be centred to the south of Australia. At this time of year, this position acts to block cold fronts from moving up from the Southern Ocean, preventing them from bringing seasonal rainfall to southern Australia. As a result, much of Australia will experience a spell of stable and predominantly dry weather throughout next week, possibly longer. A couple of fronts may clip Tasmania and the far southeast of Australia's mainland next week, although these will bring a paltry amount of rain compared to this week's deluge. The position of the high will also maintain mild temperatures across the nation's southeast and east, and warmer weather in the west throughout next week. If you look at the forecast for your place, you may notice that temperatures don't vary much from day to day.
