Australia's 2017 snow season just keeps on getting better. The natural snow depth at Spencers Creek was 189.5cm on Thursday this week. This is a new peak for the current season and the highest level measured at the site in five years. Eight of the last nine weeks have seen an overall snow gain in the alps, which is an impressive feat for Australia. This achievement reflects the cool and dry weather Australia's alps experienced during July and August. Entering spring with this much snow on the slopes will ensure that there is plenty of cover at Australia's main ski resorts during the opening weeks of the season. Some resorts have even announced they will be extending their ski season in early October. If this isn't enough to get Australian snow-lovers excited about spring skiing, there's more good news on the horizon. A pulse of cold air will bring another decent round of fresh snow early next week, with the potential for more than half a metre of fresh snow between Sunday and Wednesday. Next week's snow depth reading at Spencer's Creek should be above two metres for the first time since 2012.
