Perth's hot autumn continues with the city recording its warmest night for two years.

The city was on track to record its warmest night for four years, with temperatures not dipping below 30 degrees Celsius until 9.30pm. The minimum overnight temperature eventually dropped to 26.2C at 6:10am.

That is the highest minimum overnight temperature since March 14, 2016 when the overnight low was also 26C.

Perth' warmest night of the summer was 24.7C on February 3.

The warmest overnight temperature for January was 22.5C on January 14 — the night before the hottest day of the year.

December's highest overnight minimum was 21.8C on December 9.

Weatherzone meteorologist Brett Dutschke said humidity levels were also higher than normal at 40 to 50 per cent, which would have made for a stickier night than usual.

Mr Dutschke said the warm nights would continue for most of the week with the overnight minimums dropping to about 21C — or 3C higher than normal for this time of year.

He said the humidity levels in Perth would also increase this afternoon when the sea breeze came in.

Hot day to follow

Perth is still in with a chance of exceeding its summer maximum temperature today, with a forecast top of 36C — only two degrees away from the 38C recorded on January 14.

There is also a 20 per cent chance of a shower or thunderstorm about the hills this afternoon.

Temperatures are set to remain in the 30s through until Sunday.

Western Power said demand for electricity overnight was not exceptional despite the warm weather.

However, a spokesman says today's hot day, the second in a row above 35C, could see demand spike with a lot of people turning on air conditioners.

He said power demand today could be the highest since the summer of 2017 and may even surpass the winter peak of 3,655 megawatts recorded on July 31, 2017.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, 33
Thursday: Sunny, 32

Sunday: Mostly sunny, 30
