Parched Alice heads towards record

By Gail Liston, Friday August 31, 2012 - 13:48 EST

Alice Springs is experiencing its longest dry spell in 40 years.

The weather bureau's Graham King says the last rainfall was recorded on April 24.

He says it is the second longest dry spell on record.

"One-hundred and 27 days you've enjoyed this time around but back in 1972, which is 40 years ago, 147 is the all-time longest record," he said.

"So another three weeks and you might have your longest dry spell on record on your hands."
