One of Sydney's hottest in over a century

Sam Terry
Even a last ditch effort from the frosty south winds over the weekend couldn't keep Sydney from having one of it's hottest Septembers in more than a century, according to weatherzone.com.au. Sydney's records go back to 1859, 150 years ago. In all that time the harbour-side city has not been hotter in September than this month. Sydney's average maximum temperature so far has been 23. It was higher than this three years ago. If the forecasts for the next two days are correct, then Sydney will have it's second hottest September day-time temperatures on record, a phenomenal effort. With climate change currently on the agenda, many will be thinking that events such as these are a strong support to global warming. However, this might not necessarily be the case. Extreme events are possible at any one time, with Sydney having a similarly hot September in 1928, a full 81 years ago. Whatever the case may be, the next couple of days in Sydney will be warm. The city will top at 25 degrees tomorrow to finish the month.
