NSW and VIC chill through freezing night

NSW and VIC chill through freezing night
Many residents over inland parts of Victoria and New South Wales would have perhaps enjoyed a bit of a Sunday sleep in this morning as some places experienced their coldest night in years. For many places in the region including Yarrawonga (-2.4), Wangaratta (-3.1), Forbes (-2.7) and Khancoban (-2.9), this was the coldest night in one or two years. Gundagai hasn't seen a colder night since 2006 as the mercury dipped to -3.6 degrees, while Lake Cargelligo had its coldest night since 2008 dipping to -3 degrees. A cold front swept over the region on Saturday leaving behind a pool of cold air. In the wake of this front, a high pressure system developed, causing a combination of clear skies and light winds, allowing temperatures to plummet overnight. The coming nights won't be any warmer either, as the high pressure system continues to bring a combination of clear skies and light winds until at least mid-week. For many parts this will be the coldest run of nights/mornings in at least one or two years, with frost likely to be a commonplace on many lawns. A trough bringing increased cloud cover and rain should bring an end to the freezing nights from about Thursday.
