The northern interior of NSW has received some of its best July rainfall in years.
In the 24 hours to 9am the northeast and northwestern interior received a widespread 25mm with some areas receiving more than twice that figure. Nundle, on the NW Slopes and Plains recorded 67mm, the heaviest rain in at least four years. Nearby Keeva received 52mm, the heaviest July rainfall in 12 years.
The rain has helped to lift many locations above their monthly mean. Cobar has more than tripled their July average rainfall with 93mm, making it the wettest July since 1998. Tamworth has also had the best July rainfall in 12 years, recording 112mm this month, 69mm above the average.
The rain has lifted river heights in the north leading to the issue of Flood Warnings for the Castlereagh and Peel rivers, with river heights expected to increase further today.
The rain was triggered by a trough that drew moisture from the tropics to the southeast. The heaviest rain has now cleared the state with no heavy rain forecast for the next week.
