New South Wales and Victoria feel the frost
Sam Terry

Winter has just taken an early morning bite out of southeastern Australia, as temperatures plummeted overnight in both NSW and VIC.
Almost every official forecast district in New South Wales was affected by frost last night, due to light winds allowing particularly cold air aloft to reach the surface.
Charlotte Pass was far and away the coldest location overnight, not only in NSW, but the entire country. The mercury there dipped to a glacial -20 degrees! This is the coldest it's been anywhere in Australia since 1994. It was also the third coldest temperature ever recorded.
Melbourne didn't miss out on the chill; many suburbs were licked by frost. Bulleen recorded a minimum of zero, the coldest morning in a whole year. The city saw the temperature drop to three degrees, the lowest it's been since April 2009.
But what lies ahead? More frost? The answer is a resounding yes. There is still plenty of potential for frost, although this is mainly for NSW, as VIC now has too much cloud.
Canberra is forecasting sub-zero temperatures, the coldest in a month, and it will be similar for the rest of the NSW slopes and ranges. All in all, it'll be a great morning to stay in bed.
