National weather outlook

Douglas Fenton
The dominant weather feature over the country is a large high pressure system. This high pressure system is keeping much of the continent clear and dry, leading to another chilly morning over the central interior and east on Wednesday. The high is directing moist winds over Tasmania and along the east coast, which is causing a few light showers. These showers are mainly falling over exposed parts of the Queensland coast. The most unsettled weather on Wednesday is happening in Western Australia. A low pressure trough is triggering thundery showers, mainly over the generally drier Gascoyne, Central Wheatbelt and Goldfields districts. The outlook is for the trough in the west to progress slowly east over the next few days, bringing showers and possible storms to South Australia on Thursday and to southern parts of Victoria on Friday. The high pressure system will linger over the east, allowing for mostly clear skies through to the weekend. This will bring some more chilly mornings to the east, north and central interior. A weak cooler south-westerly change is due to push through the nation's southeast on Saturday, but is not expected to bring much rainfall. Keep checking weatherzone.com.au for the latest updates.
