Moist onshore winds around a slow-moving high pressure system drove showers over the Sydney Basin on Friday night and into Saturday morning, with more on the way over the weekend. Eastern parts of the Harbour City have picked up the most rain so far. The city itself recorded 27mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Saturday as multiple showers moved through. This is the first time Sydney has recorded more than 20mm of rain in one day in nearly three months. Showers were heavy at times, delivering just over 5mm in 10 minutes to the city. Elsewhere in Sydney the airport picked up 18mm, Belrose got 14mm and Cromer received 13mm. Showers were generally lighter in the western suburbs and those in the southwest and far west missed out. Olympic Park and Toongabbie both recorded 9mm while Parramatta had 8mm reach the gauge. Showers will continue for much of Saturday, becoming less likely later this afternoon and into the evening, and there will be sunny breaks between showers. A further 5-10mm of rain can be expected, although isolated higher totals are possible under the heavier showers, and some locations might miss out altogether. Showers are a chance again on Sunday morning but should only bring a couple of millimetres of rain before clearing during the afternoon.
