More spring snow on the way

More spring snow on the way
Australia's alps are about to see four days of fresh spring snowfalls, extending the season's purple patch into the middle of September. At the end of June Australia's alps were having one of their worst starts to a season on record. At that stage, there was only 4cm of natural snow on the ground at Spencers Creek in NSW. Fast forward to the middle of last week and the natural snow depth had reached a whopping 233cm, which was the highest it's been at Spencers Creek for 17 years. The superb start to spring will get even better during the second half of this week as a pair of cold fronts send cold air surging over Australia's southeast between Wednesday and Saturday. These two systems will top up the snow base at Australia's main ski resorts with 20-40cm of fresh powder by Sunday. If you haven't had a chance to visit the slopes this season, it's certainly not too late. Many resorts have extended the season so you have more time to get up the mountains and enjoy the best spring snow in years.
