Melbourne is likely to near its hottest Halloween on record before a cold day on Thursday. Today the temperature shot up quickly, exceeding 25 degrees by 9am. If the mercury goes past 33.1 degrees it will be the hottest Halloween on record, exceeding the Halloween of 2009. Records go back 158 years. This is also one of Melbourne's hottest October periods on record. Yesterday was the hottest October day in three years, but if it exceeds 30 degrees today it will be the hottest pair of October days in 18 years. Cloud will increase through the day and the warm northwesterly winds will ease and tend southwesterly during the evening bringing a cooler change and showers. On Thursday morning southwesterly winds will become fresh and showers will continue during the morning leading to a cold day. In the wind much of the day will feel like 13 or 14 degrees. Looking further ahead and temperatures will gradually rise through the week, peaking near 30 degrees on Monday or Tuesday.
