Last few days of autumn heat

By early next week the hottest weather will be behind us, at least for this season, and we're not likely to see any hotter days until September.

Cooler winds are gradually taking over Tasmania and coastal areas of South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and southeast Queensland.

But before then, much of the region will be bathing in temperatures five to 10 degrees above average.

It has already been hot in some parts. Yesterday and today Adelaide rose to 35 degrees but by early next week will struggle to reach 25.

Melbourne next week will be more than 10 degrees cooler than the low 30s experienced in each of the last three days.

Hobart will cool from the high 20s to the high teens and Canberra from about 30 to the low 20s.

Sydneysiders and Brisbanites will not experience such extreme changes due to the cooling winds blowing off relatively warm waters.

While most of the coasts will be cooler than average early next week some people living inland of the Great Dividing Range will only notice a small change and hardly a drop of rain.

Light showers are forecast for the coasts.

There will be some warming again by the end of next week but not as much as the recent warming.
