Icy blast cuts roads in south-east New South Wales
Wednesday June 10, 2009 - 14:00 EST
Heavy snowfalls over the Snowy Mountains and on the Monaro have cut power and closed roads.
Country Energy has restored power to Delegate after snow brought down power lines.
The State Emergency Service says six to 10 centimetres of snow has fallen this morning at Bombala.
Kevin Anderson from the State Emergency Service says many roads are now closed due to dangerous driving conditions.
"The Monaro Highway from Cooma to Brown Mountain has closed and the road from the Brown Mountain turn-off to Bombala has closed", he said
"They've had quite strong winds in the area and I guess that combined with the snow and drought conditions is probably bringing down branches and trees on power lines and possibly across roads and peoples' properties".
In East Gippsland the Cann Valley Highway and Monaro Highway, between Cann River and Bombala is closed by snow.
Motorists are being urged to slow-down between Orbost and Cann River because of hail storms and slippery road conditions.
