Hospital windows smashed in hail storm

Tuesday December 22, 2009 - 08:00 EDT

The Hunter Valley township of Singleton is counting the cost after a hail storm swept through the area last night, damaging several buildings including the local hospital.

The State Emergency Service (SES) says at least 35 windows were smashed at the hospital and the records department suffered water damage.

A local nursing home was also badly damaged but the building was not evacuated.

The SES received more than 160 calls for assistance mainly for hail damage to roofs, windows and skylights.

Crews are working this morning to secure damaged buildings and removing fallen trees.
