High pressure in control across Australia
Rosebud Lambert

A high pressure system in southern Australia has been dominating the weather lately bringing gusty winds to the north, and some clear skies and cold mornings to inland areas in the south.
The gusty southeasterly winds are affecting the northern half of Australia, leading to a total fire ban in parts of the NT. Northern parts of WA have also felt the gusty conditions with Karratha and Port Hedland in the Pilbara, recording wind gusts of up to 60km/h.
The high pressure system has also brought sunny skies to inland areas,
leading to frosty mornings in parts of QLD, NSW, VIC, SA and WA. While the clear skies are a trademark of high pressure, coastal areas in the southeast have experienced a mixed bag of weather.
Southeasterly winds have directed coastal showers over Sydney in the past week, with cloud cover on some days keeping the maximum temperature below average. Melbourne has also had below average days with low cloud staying trapped under the high, keeping the city cool.
The high will move slowly east in the coming days, keeping the southeast mostly dry while a trough may develop in QLD bringing rain to inland areas.
