Heavy rain and storms have saturated southern parts of WA over the past 24 hours.
The heaviest falls were about the Great Southern, with Hyden picking up a torrential 105mm. This was Hyden's heaviest daily rain in at least 83 years and is also the wettest December total on record. Heavy rain also drenched the Central Wheatbelt, with Narembeen gaining 97mm. This is the wettest December day in at least 84 years and is also the wettest December total on record.
Perth didn't miss out on the action either. The city gained 26mm to 9am on Wednesday, which is double the long term monthly average and comes after a dry end to spring.
The storms also brought potentially damaging winds to the Central Wheatbelt, with Cunderdin Airport receiving gusts of up to 93km/h on Tuesday.
The wet weather has been triggered by a slow moving low pressure system which has drawn in large quantities of moisture from the Indian Ocean.
The region of rain and storms will push east across southern WA, reaching western parts of SA late on Wednesday. Southern WA will continue to pick up showers on Thursday, mainly about the coast. There are indications that rain and storms will return to Perth on Sunday.
