Heat spreads south - but not for long

The above average temperatures that have affected QLD have spread south to NSW with some towns suffering through their warmest July night on record.
The Northern Rivers district in NSW could be forgiven for thinking summer has arrived with maximum and minimum temperatures soaring well above average. Last night Ballina only dropped to 19 degrees, 11 degree above average, and the hottest July night in 17 years of records. The warm temperatures remained through the day, rising to 26 degrees.
Gosford, on the Central Coast, also felt the heat. Gosford only fell to 14 degrees overnight, a minimum never before recorded in July in 45 years of record keeping.
Above average temperatures have even crept down to Victoria with Melbourne enjoying an 18 degree day, six above average.
Unfortunately winter is about to fight back with a cold front fast approaching the southeast. Melbournians will get a shock tomorrow with a forecast maximum of only 12 degrees as the cold front brings a burst of cold air with gusty showers and snow on the alps.
Sydney siders have one more day to enjoy warm temperatures before the cold air filters north dropping Monday's maximum to 15 degrees.
