Gusty southerly cool Sydney and surrounds
Sydney an surrounds sit under a veil of cloud and drizzle following a blustery southerly change. Conditions were brilliant over much of the Sydney Basin and Central coast on Friday morning with blue skies and light winds bringing an excellent start to the end of the week. A southerly change was steadily moving up the New South Wales coast however and gradually changed the mood from glorious to gloomy. As winds tended southerly at around 11am, the CBD experienced a temperature drop of 4.3 degrees in fifty minutes. Further north, Gosford also felt a slightly more rapid drop in temperatrues of 4.9 degrees in just thirty minutes. Despite this relatively rapid fall in temperatures, conditions remained fairly pleasant with the mercury stil lingering in the mid twenties. The winds continued to increase as afternoon turned to evening and by 6:40pm, Wattamolla had clocked maximum wind gusts of 91 km/h. Fort Denison managed to record maximum wind gusts of 72 km/h at around 4pm while the Airport just cracked 70 km/h at around 7pm. These winds only gradually abated throughout the night and even this morning are continuing to gust up to 61 km/h as of 9am at Wattamolla. After the initial band of brief cloud-to-cloud thunderstorms had passed, light showers persisted throughout the night over eastern and northern parts of the Sydney Basin and Central Coast. By 9am today when the offical rainfall figures got recorded, Gosford had managed to collect 19mm, the heaviest rain in a month and a half. Today brings more miserable conditions with a top of just 22 degrees and intermittent drizzle lingering throughout the day. Today's agenda ought to consist of getting cozy inside.
