Great follow up rain for inland NSW
Inland parts of New South Wales receive much needed follow up rain. Following last week's rain event which brought much needed relief to the North West Slopes and Plains and Northern Tablelands, a low pressure trough has brought another healthy dose of moisture. Parts of the Upper Western and North West Slopes and Plains fared the best this time around with Lightning Ridge picking up an impressive 53mm to 9am. This went down as the heaviest rain since February 2012, and the heaviest June rain since records began in 1997. Bourke got lucky with 25mm falling to 9am today, great follow up rain after receiving 42.8mm just over a week ago. Similarly, Walgett collected another 19.2mm following a 48 hour total of 27.4mm last week. This has now pushed Walgett to around 175% of the June average, which is especially important for this drought stricken area. Bourke is also doing well compared to average having received 282% of the June average so far this month. The trough which was responsible for this moisture is migrating over northeastern parts of the state today producing light isolated showers and the outside chance of the odd thunderstorm. It looks like the most significant rainfall has now fallen, with the next best chance of rain coming early next week. There are indications of trough deepening over the North West Slopes and Plains and Tablelands on Tuesday which could give one final opportunity for the June totals to increase further. This trough has the potential to bring widespread falls of 20-30mm across inland parts of the state's north, with the possibility for heavier isolated totals.
