Brisbane has been unusually wet and cloudy this July, but at least the nights have been warm. Brisbane is on track to record its third warmest average July nights in 126 years of records. So far this month, morning minima have averaged 12.7 degrees, almost three above average. The mercury has only fallen below the average of 10 degrees once. Despite the warm nights some people have still been complaining about the weather due to the presence of cloud and annoying showers. There has also been an unusual amount of rain for this time of year, with 15 days of rainfall so far this month. This is the most days of rain for July in at least a decade. Despite the large number of rain days, rainfall has only gone slightly above average to 37mm as most totals have been small. Southeast Queensland has experienced consistently mild nights and a higher frequency of showers this July due to the dominance of high pressure systems to the south. These highs have persistently directed moist onshore winds onto the Queensland coast, bringing cloud and showers. The highs have also succeeded in blocking most cold fronts, meaning that cold air has barely reached this far north during July. The rest of July will be similar as a high to the south directs mild and moist southeasterly winds onto the QLD coast. There is the chance of a shower or two most days until the end of the month with morning temperatures staying above 10 degrees.
