Frigid outback Australia
The Northern Territory's Alice Springs district is not missing out on the cold nights affecting much of eastern Australia, with the majority running a few degrees below the July average so far this month. Alice Springs has succeeded in dropping below the July minimum average in all but two nights so far this month. However, both of these nights were only 0.8 and 1 degree above the July average at 4.8 and 5 degrees respectively. All other days have remained at least 4 degrees below the July average minimum recording temperatures at or below freezing. Rabbit flat's warmest night so far this month was still only 4.3 degrees below the July 1997-2013 average minimum, whilst the majority of nights have dropped to near freezing. Uluru has also been enduring significant cold. Each night this month has been at least 1 degree below the July average, with last night recording the coldest so far this month dipping 6 degrees below the average. Tonight and tomorrow night will likely see these frosty conditions continue. However, on Saturday a weak low pressure trough should draw in some cloud from the tropics allowing overnight temperatures to increase closer to average for a couple of days at least.
