Freezing temperatures for the southeast
Martin Palmer

Temperatures in parts of New South Wales and Victoria have plummeted in the last few days, a stark reminder that we are albeit, just into Autumn.
Overnight minimums have been particularly low, with places such as Orange in NSW creeping to 1 degree last night. Even Sydney only managed 14 degrees, with nearby Liverpool not even making 10. However, it was the around the ranges of southern NSW and eastern VIC that the cold has bitten hardest. Perisher, NSW recorded a low of -7 degrees, that's 10 below average and their coldest March night in at least 31 years. Some light snowfalls over Mt Hotham in VIC added to the surrealism as bush fires still raged elsewhere in the state.
Many will be seeing their first frosts of the year with a combination of the cool air, clear skies and light winds. Tonight there will be another chance across sheltered valleys in the NSW and VIC ranges. As we move into next week winds will shift into the east and northeast, warming everything up and marking an end to the rather seasonal weather, for now.
