Foggy view on high country lake levels
Friday July 30, 2010 - 08:37 EST
The hydro-electricity utility in the New South Wales Snowy Mountains says it's unclear if poor snowfalls will impact on lake levels.
Snowy Hydro says there have been above-average inflows in the last three months, despite the lowest natural snow depth for more than two decades.
Spokesman, Paul Johnson, says run-off from the snow is not expected until later this year, but he hopes more rain will balance the poor snowfalls.
He says the company has plans to improve snow patterns.
"Snow is important," Mr Johnson said.
"That's one of the reasons why we want to undertake our cloud-seeding program, not only to improve and get more snow, but because it is such an important part of our runoff.
"Cloud seeding has enabled us to increase that percentage of snow run-off."
