Police have warned motorists to take care on foggy roads - ABC

Fog has disrupted flights in central Queensland this morning.

A thick fog has enveloped the region and police are warning motorists to take extra care on the roads while visibility is reduced.

The closure of Brisbane Airport meant some flights to Rockhampton and Gladstone could not take off, while a thick blanket of fog also affected operations at airports in central Queensland.

Weather bureau forecaster Mike Marrinan says there is likely to be more fog tomorrow morning.

"It started about 1:30 am (AEST) at the airport here this morning," he said.

"There would have been patches around even late last evening I would think in places and it's quite extensive.

"Most places have either fog or low cloud at the moment and extends right along the eastern seaboard, so there'll probably be major airline disruptions I would imagine all around the place.

"Much the same is likely to occur again tomorrow."

The police regional traffic coordinator, Inspector Mike Curtin says some road crashes were caused by poor visibility.

"There have been a number of minor traffic crashes reported across the region [and] indicators are that fog may have been involved in some of those crashes," he said.

"Fog should be no different to other road conditions including rain and people should drive to those conditions.

"Just because the speed limit might be 60 kilometres an hour or 100 kilometres an hour that doesn't mean that you have to drive that speed.

"Drive to what's safe, get to the other end of your journey."
