Floods leave $1m damage bill

The Lismore Mayor says local infrastructure suffered more than $1 million worth of damage during last week's flood.

Jenny Dowell says much of that is related to landslips near Jiggi and The Channon.

She says the council's local road network covers 1,200 kilometres, so drivers have to be patient.

"If potholes are reported we'll see council fill in the most urgent ones and the ones that are in dangerous locations before any other assessment is made," she said.

"But please, the best thing people can do is drive carefully."

Meanwhile, the Minister for the North Coast is reassuring flood victims in the region that help is available.

Low-interest loans of up to $130,000 are available to affected farmers and small business owners.

Ten north coast local government areas have already been declared natural disaster zones, including Tweed, Byron, Lismore, Kyogle and the Clarence Valley - while Tenterfield was added to the list yesterday.

Minister Don Page says more declarations are likely.

He says help is also available to not-for-profit groups.
